Double-Knit Heart
Double knitting makes a charted image appear on the front AND back of your work, in opposite colors. The sky’s the limit with this amazing technique, as you’ll see in the Designing Double Knits section below. In this video I’ll teach you the technique using an easy heart pattern.

Designing Double Knits
You can double-knit almost anything you want, as you can see by the astonishing work of KnitFreedom student Deb Dav above. As she told me in a Facebook conversation about her extreme double-knitting designs, “I realized that you can double-knit any pattern, so I tried.”
To create your own double-knitting charts from photos, you can use Deb’s favorite tools: Lunapic to make the photos black and white, and then Stitch Board or Photo Pearls to turn them into charts.
Patterns for Practice
Here are four highly-recommended double knitting patterns for you to try:
