Simple Cables
This simple cables chart is going to start you off on your cables journey with success. I’ll teach you how to cable quickly and without a cable needle so you don’t have to buy or carry around any extra equipment in order to knit cables.

Designing with Cables
You can use cables to add richness and texture to any pattern, especially sweaters. Above is a custom sweater made by my friend and KnitFreedom student Brian Murphy.
As you can see, you can add different cables to your project and be knitting from multiple charts as you go around the sweater. One thing to keep in mind is that you may be on Row 4 of one cable and Row 12 of another cable, since cables have different vertical heights before the chart repeats. Just use a highlighter or your knitCompanion app to track where you are in each chart as you go.
Patterns for Practice
Here are four highly recommended charted cable patterns for you to try. Enjoy!
