Knitting While Horseback Riding

Who says it can't be done?!

I knitted two socks at a time on this fantastic fall trail ride in Aspen. Just tie your reigns up to the saddle horn and go!

But seriously, having my hands occupied on an easy knitting project really helps me enjoy and appreciate things that move slowly, like the Colorado scenery.

Here's a 20-second video for your entertainment!

Want to be able to knit socks while horseback riding?

  1. I was pretty incredulous when I saw the title for this post. I’ve been riding horses since I was a little kid (English and Western) and knitting for well over 10 years (I’m now 67), and I would personally never attempt to knit while riding! The reason is that horses are unpredictable. They are not cars, and they can shy or buck at any time (even dude ranch plodders) for no discernable reason. The rider will usually end up on the ground, unless they have a very good, balanced seat–which most inexperienced riders do not. I also notice you are not wearing a safety helmet, which most riders regard as a must for safety these days. Don’t get me wrong, I love your posts and admire you very much–I just don’t think horseback riding and knitting are a good mix.

Dear Ms. Gat, this is your new fan. Ill be honest, I have become smitten with you.
I saw a tidbit of an interview of you on New Mexico style. And I must say you were a little over or under dressed ,I will let others decide for themselves. I believe you can ware anything and look good. Maybe someday I will meet you in Colorado some day.
I will be in Buena vista for gold rush days second weekend of August. It is a fun event
celebrating mining heratige from long ago. There are fun things to do other than the
Burro Races and marathon, or the toilet seat races. lots of arts and crafts too. I am sure they would apprecieate a nice celeberty like yourself in attendance. And although you already know how cute and wonderfull you are I had to remind you again. But seriously I have a dilema and I need your help. And not just with spelling.
Forgive me for being such a caveman, heres my problem. I while back I bought a knitted poncho for a friend of mine, everyone who sees it loves it. Ive even had people try to steal it. Others ask who made it and where they can get one. So I dont like to blow these folks off and I lie and say my dead grandma made it and it is hard to knit from the grave. For lack of a better fib. so what can I do . Take a photo and send it to you. or just send you the poncho and you can wave your magic needles and produce a new one or design specs to create a new one our selves. I dont know whom to turn to . Save me Super Knitting Girl the world needs you and your special powers and abilitys. Thank you for taking time out from your buzy day.
