Getting Started
Welcome to your felted moebius bowl class! We will be knitting the larger of my two felted moebius bowls. You will learn not only the basics of casting on for and knitting a moebius, but also many intermediate techniques you'll use on myriad projects for years to come.
Pattern
We will be knitting the Felted 5-Twist Moebius Bowl pattern.
Please download the pattern above and print it out so you can have refer to it while you watch the videos.
The project has two possible sizes: a small bowl and a large bowl. We will be doing the large bowl in the videos but the small bowl is the same technique, just different numbers in the pattern. You can knit both bowls with 1 skein each of Malabrigo Chunky in two colors.
Materials

Yarn
To knit these bowls, you will need 100 yards each in two colors of bulky-weight 100% wool yarn. This is enough to make one small bowl and one large bowl. I love Malabrigo Chunky, but you can use any 100% wool bulky yarn, or even two strands of worsted-weight yarn held double.
To avoid felting surprises, I encourage you to use two colors of the same yarn in your project. If you do not, you may find that one yarn felts differently than the other. You can test your yarns ahead of time by knitting a small swatch and following the felting instructions in this chapter.
Needles
To knit these bowls, you’ll need a size 15 (10.0 mm) 47-inch circular needle. If you have a shorter circular needle (30 or 40 inches), you may find that this works fine – several of our students have done the bowl with shorter needles.
If you happen to have a size 15 16-inch circular needle and double-points, you can do the base of the bowl in the traditional way, not using Magic Loop. But I will be showing you in the videos how to knit the entire bowl on Magic Loop with just one needle.
