My recommended needle lengths are:
– 47″ for two-at-a-time knitting
– 40″ for anything else on Magic Loop
– 30-47″ for Moebius knitting
Recommended Double-Pointed Needles: FlexiFlips by Addi
For those wanting to start their sock journey, but who are frustrated with both double-pointed needles and Magic Loop – Addi FlexiFlips are the perfect in-between. This set consists of three needles with a small portion of circular cable in the middle that bows out to accommodate for the curve of your sock.

Birchwood knitting needles are a great beginner knitting needle. Avoid the cheap aluminum knitting needles found at craft stores (or at least invest in a pair of wooden needles as soon as you can). Recommended Interchangeable Needles: Twist 5-Inch Red Lace by ChiaoGoo
My favorite interchangeable set of needles I’ve used is the ChiaoGoo Red Lace set. I’ve had these since I was in high school, and they are always the first set I grab when casting on. You can use a key to screw the needle into the cord, and I very rarely have issues with the joins coming loose. In addition, they have extension sets for shorter tips to use for hats and other small projects.
