What Size to Make, What Yarn to Order, and a Discount Code
Here are more details about what size slippers to make and what yarn you'll need to order to knit your felted slippers.
This information is taken from the Materials chapter of your Felted Slippers online class and your Felted Slippers pattern.
Sizes
This slipper pattern comes in 5 very forgiving sizes: Baby (Toddler, Child, Adult Small, Adult Large)
The baby size is good for babies up to 1 year old. The toddler size is good for 1-5 years (see photo above). The child size is for 6+ years. Adult small and adult large can be used for adult woman and adult man if you wish.
Finished Measurements: 4.5 (5.5,7, 9, 10.5) in. from toe to heel.
To Fit a Foot: 4 (5, 6.5, 8.5, 10) in. from toe to heel (since the slippers have a pointy toe).
You can easily customize the finished size by stopping the felting process when slipper reaches desired size.
Materials
Yarn: You'll need 90 (130, 180, 330, 440) yds 100% non-superwash wool DK-weight yarn total ("superwash" means "machine-washable = will not felt!).
The yardage you need for each color will vary depending on how many blocks you knit with each color. You can plan on 6 (9, 12, 22, 28) yards per color block - there are 8 blocks per slipper.
DK yarn is a bit thinner than worsted-weight yarn. You’ll need to use 100% wool so that the slippers felt correctly.
Recommended Yarns and Coupon Code
In your Materials chapter are some suggestions you will love for yarn for these slippers. Use coupon code “KnitFreedom” to get 15% off at Imagiknit.com - ends November 15th, 2020.
The yarn shown in the slippers in this project is Walkabout.
Needles
You’ll need one pair of US size 10 (6.0 mm) straight needles. This is much larger than what you would use normally for knitting with such thin yarn, but it’s correct. For felting, we want the stitches to be relatively large and loose so that the fabric can then felt up nicely.
Notions
Review your Materials chapter for the notions needed, optional and required.
In a couple days, while you're waiting for your yarn to arrive, I'll walk you through how to create a paper model of your slipper to avoid any confusion or surprises during seaming.

Happy shopping!
Evening,
I found some Nature Spun in my stash, going to make a few pairs for my grandchildren for Christmas. Looking to forward to fun, tips, and felting!
Cindy
What lucky kiddos! Looking forward to seeing how your stash-diving knits up :)
Good evening. I currently have cascade 220 in Ruby (9404) and Silver grey (8401), each is 164 yards. I was thinking about adding a third color if I can get it fairly soon.
In the meantime, I have a bit of a newby. The yarn I have has already been wound. I had planned to do “two at a time” and realize that it would have been better to have each skein divided to give 2 balls each.
Any input welcome.
/Susan
I think I figured it out–I can do this myself by weighing the ball and re winding 50% of the weight.
Yes!!
That’s what I did witb my Cascade 220. Did you get a 3rd color?
Must I use straight needles rather than circular?
Thanks.
Hi Cordelia,
No, you can use your circular needles to knit the flat project!
Thanks for asking.
Cheers,
Liat
So excited to join the knitalong! I’m not a beginner knitter but I’ve never done anything like this before. I’m envisioning making at least 7 pairs of slippers to give as xmas gifts! 🤗
I’m attempting to buy yarn on the Imagiknit website, but I don’t see any place to put the coupon code. Help?
Hi Debra,
Woohoo, it’s great to have you! Ahh, I love that you are getting excited about these for Christmas gifts. This is the perfect project for that.
You will put the coupon code in on the checkout page for Imagiknit, but I just heard from another student that the code isn’t working right now! I think they made a mistake and had the coupon end October 30th instead of November 30th. I have an email in to them right now so I’ll come back here and let you know when it’s working again. Sorry about that!!
Liat
Thanks so much!
I didn’t even see a space on the checkout page for entering a code. So, hopefully, one will appear when all is fixed. 👍
Hi Debra!
The discount code is up and working again. I’ve attached a screenshot to this comment showing where to enter the code.
I hope this helps!!
Liat
Thanks so much! My screen lloked different…I had to tap the Order Summay link to see the coupon code field. All set and ordered! Can’t wait!
Oh yeah…I’m going to use flannel grey, silver grey, and cabernet…and maybe a little nougat (kinda beige) thrown in as well. :-)
What a fabulous color combination! Cabernet is one of my favorite shades :) Excited to see how they turn out!
Hi, Liat and crew,
My stash gave up 2 skeins of Nature Spun 100% Wool in China Blue and Grecian Olive (Brown Sheep Co., Mitchell, NE) and one 100% Peruvian Wool in “Little Lamb” – it is an off-white color (Red Heart Full o’ Sheep). Hope they’re compatible when it comes to felting!
Oooh!! Nature Spun is great. I think you will be ok when it comes to felting – the more you felt, the less difference there is between brands. Thanks for posting!
Ooo I love the sound of those colors! You should be ok when it comes to felting between different brands. You can always do a small swatch with all three yarns and throw it in the laundry machine to test it out :)
I’m using 3 colors of Cascade 220. Burgundy, dark green, and a skein of variegated Cascade 220 paints that I don’t know the name of. It’s shades of red, green, pink, etc.
Hi William, thank you so much for joining, and thank you for becoming a Premium Member! Woohoo! Your colors sound fun!!
