It’s so rugged and burly, I actually just like to call it “man-stitch.” Why? In a chunky yarn this is a perfect stitch for a guy’s scarf or sweater, and it’s super-easy – but not boring – to knit.

  1. I’ve knitted several scarves with this pattern.
I just finished one for myself in worsted weight yarn, and it is my first item using Continental Knitting!
It was great practice because the pattern changes from knit to purl every two stitches.
One slight difference: CO 33 stitches, k2p2 to the end stitch which is a knit stitch. Makes a narrower scarf (4 inches).
I used two hanks of Berroco Vintage worsted, and a Chiagoo circular needle size 7/24 inches.
Remember to cut your fringe pieces first for the ends: I cut 96 12-inch strands of yarn, and used three strands folded in half for each fringe knot. Then you can knit/purl the rest of the yarn, and make an 82 inch scarf (measured without fringe). If you don’t knit tightly, the scarf will be wonderfully stretchy both ways!

    1. Beth – your scarf looks fantastic! I love that baby blue color, and Berroco Vintage is such a great workhorse yarn for objects that are going to get lots of wear (and may occasionally need to be machine washed). Good advice to cut the fringe first, that way you don’t have to worry about not having enough when you’re figuring out where to bind off.

      Thanks again for sharing! :)
