New Video Class Coming Soon! Felted Slippers

Liat Gat - Founder

October 14, 2020

I'm putting the finishing touches on a BRAND NEW VIDEO CLASS for you! It's called "Easy Norwegian Felted Slippers," and although it's the perfect class for beginning knitters, even advanced knitters will enjoy knitting along with me in these 11 videos.

I am so excited to let you know that I’ve just put the finishing touches on a BRAND NEW VIDEO CLASS for you.
Shop Now! Felted Slippers

It’s called “Easy Norwegian Felted Slippers,” and although it’s the perfect class for beginning knitters, even advanced knitters will enjoy knitting along with me in these 11 videos.

In this class, you will knit an adorable pair of felted slippers for a loved one in your life (even better if that’s YOU!). You’ll be knitting along with Midnattsol’s classic felted slippers pattern, with a few tips and upgrades from me.

Two easy-to-knit garter-stitch strips fold up magically like origami and in a few easy seams, you have a pair of adorable, elfish-looking slippers.

The Background Behind These Slippers

Slippers Milo hands 1 sm square cropThese felted slippers were a favorite project of mine when I learned to knit them at the Avalon Eating Disorder Clinic in Utah.

I was inspired to knit them again recently because, even in Mexico, floors get cold in the winter and I wanted something to warm my and my baby’s feet.

Having never forgotten this fun and fast project, I knew it was time to revisit these slippers.

Skills You’ll Learn

Bodhi Knitting in the Bath

In this class, you’ll learn how to:

  • Count your garter stitch rows with complete confidence,
  • Pick up and knit stitches,
  • Seam garter stitch edges along the side edge and along the bind-off/cast-on edge with Mattress stitch,
  • Felt projects in the washer or by hand, and
  • Needle-felt fun decorations onto your felted slippers.

You’ll Get

  • An adorable pair of felted slippers to wear or gift,
  • A fun, fast project that can help you use up leftover skeins of yarn,
  • The joy of working along with me and other KnitFreedom knitters on a really darling project.

Your Opinion – Are You Excited?

I’ll be making this slippers class available very soon, but I’d love to know – is this something you’re excited about?

Also, would you like to participate in a knitalong for these slippers?

Leave a Comment and Let Me Know!

I’m so looking forward to knitting along with you very soon.

  1. Felted slippers, sweet! I too would enjoy this class, and if my schedule works out, I would join with the group in “real time”. I live in Maine and just about everybody here needs slippers in the winter! Thank you.

  2. Need to know right away Which wool to buy
    and where??Thank you soooooooo much
I live in Colorado so I would need to order it

  3. I missed participating in the TAAT sock Kal due to a high level of pain in my right hand. Being a right hand knitter right now is a test of endurance.
However, I am hoping this Slipper Kal will be easier on my right hand as I try to train my hands for the Continental Knitting Style. I’ve thinking about Portuguese Knitting Style, also. I hope List may consider teaching this technique. Both of my hands’ joints are becoming more problematic.
I used to think that using some of my virgin wool for felting would not be the best use of my wool yarn, but Liat’s enthusiasm has triggered mine also.
So, please count me in for this Slipper KAL class.
Hugs to all of my KnitFreedom family.
    Yvonne

    1. Hi Yvonne,
I’m so glad you came here to comment! And also thank you for reminding me about Portuguese knitting. I actually have that technique at the top of my list.
This project would be great for you to practice your Continental knitting, as you will be felting it, so any funky tension issues will be invisible. It’s perfect.
I hope to help you more soon with some Portuguese knitting videos!!
      Hugs back!!!
      Liat

We are so excited you’re joining us Peggy :) Stay tuned because next week we will release all the details (and some fun surprises) about the Class & KAL

  6. Sounds like fun. The only thing I’ve ever felted was a nice sweater that got into the dryer instead of being laid flat to dry. What started as a size M, ended up being about a size 3 children’s. lol

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Oh no! That’s never fun, but I’m sure a size 3 child loved it ;)

We would love for you to join us Darlene! This class is full of great felting tips, and we’re excited to share what Liat’s been working hard on.

  7. I am interested in a knit along thinking Christmas gifts for the grandchildren. They are always only barefoot or stocking foot when in the house.

  8. I’ve been a knitter for several years, but although I’ve gathered patterns for felted knitted slippers, I’ve not yet made a pair. And who better than Liat Gat to show me how to do it?! And I’ve never taken part in a KAL, so yes, I’m definitely interested!

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Susannah, that’s awesome! We would love for this Felted Slippers class to be your very first KAL. Liat’s been working hard putting this together, and will be announcing all the details and fun surprises next week. Stay tuned! :)

  11. Oh my gosh!! The thing I have always wanted to learn how to…purposefully!! I’ve accidentally felted hubby socks a time or two over the years, but I am so excited to be able to learn how to knit something a certain size and have it shrink to the size I want!! Woohoo!!

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

I so relate to that! I’ve felted so many pairs of socks that I’ve started using them as furniture felt pads haha

Don’t worry, we’ll have all the tips you’ll need to felt down to the perfect size. More details (and some surprises) will be announced next week :)

  15. Cynthia Spellman-durham

A knit a long would be great! Who can’t use a great slipper pattern for a last minute Christmas gift? This is an awesome idea! As I have a slew of grandkids, I could definitely use this!

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

I feel that Cynthia! I’m excited to cast on too – everyone on my Christmas list will be receiving a pair of these this year :)

Next week we will be releasing details on the class and KAL. Thanks for your support!

  16. I’d love to make these for my grandkids. I hope you’ll start soon so I can get for pairs done for Christmas! Is there a way to put something on the bottom to make them slip resistant? They may be dangerous for little ones to wear on the stairs.

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

We’re so excited you’ll be joining us Jane, and don’t worry – we’ll announce all details (as well as some fun surprises) next week to get the ball rolling .

There’s a chapter on how to add some slip-resistant traction on the bottom of the slippers so folks of all ages don’t find themselve slipping around :)

  17. This sounds great. After finishing a challenging cardigan for my granddaughter this is jus what I need. Have made felted items over the years but it is always fun to try another pair. Thanks.

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

We’re so glad to hear it Nancy! It’s always good to have a simple and fun project to work on as a palette cleanser after those more complicated projects.

As always, it’s lovely to hear from you :) Excited to have you join us in class and for the KAL!

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Cascade 220 would be perfect as it’s 100% wool content and worsted weight means it’ll felt down to size.

  21. Greetings from sunny Gold Coast Australia albeit experiencing troubled health issues same as rest of world. I would love to learn the felted slippers as I have a huge stash of yarn purchased for lockdown. Would love to put it to use before anyone has a peek of my yarn. Coming into our summer I still get to knit and the felted slippers look beautiful. I learned to knit at age 8yrs but also do many other crafts. Knitting teaches us patience something sadly lacking in today’s times.
Maybe we should make it mandatory especially for our leaders.
    Cheers Christine.

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

      Hi Christine!

Hope all is well in Australia, and that y’all are keeping eachother safe. Completely agree how knitting teaches patience – I find myself having to relearn every time I frog a new project that I started watching TV in the dark haha.

If you have a 100% non-superwash wool yarn in either DK or light Worsted, then you’re ready to cast on! We look forward to you joining our class and KAL :)

  22. This sounds really interesting, and I would enjoy a knitalong because I have always been afraid to try felting but step by step help would give me the confidence I need to try it.

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

We would love to have you join the KAL and Class Celine! I completely understand the felting fear – especially since so many of us try very hard NOT to felt our projects. Don’t worry, we’ve got all the resources in the class to have you felting confidently in no time!

  23. I loved the knit along for two toe up socks so much. And I recently saw this pattern somewhere and wished I’d had the confidence to try it. I’m in!!!

I’m a premium member do I still need to buy the class?

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Hi Margaret! We’re delighted you enjoyed the Two-at-a-Time, Toe-Up Socks KAL, and are so excited you’ll be joining in on the slippers :)

Thanks for being a Premium member, we really appreciate it! As part of your membership, the Felted Slippers is included and you can access it NOW under the “My Classes” tab.

  24. Would love to do this. I was going to ask why you didn’t knit them in the round and then realized that I avoid doing seams so this would be a very good project to do. I’m in.

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

I completely relate to that Mary – I’m also seaming averse and usually opt for patterns that are completely seamless. But this is a really fun and easy way to practice your stitching, and there are lots of fun tips and tricks along the way :)

Excited for you to join us – more details to be announced next week!

  25. Would love to learn these, however, I will need time to order Yarn, so will need to know how much and what type will work best.

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Hey Pam! From the day we launch the Knit-A-Long, you’ll have a week and a half to order your 100% non-superwash wool yarn in either DK or light worsted weight.

So excited you’ll be joining us! Keep your eyes peeled for more details next week :)

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Such great timing! We’re excited to cast these on since tis’ the season for toasty toes :) We’ll be announcing details next week. Thanks for your support!

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

That is just wonderful to hear Lisa – we will be releasing details NEXT WEEK about the class, KAL, as well as some other fun surprises :)

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

We’re so excited to hear that Kristen! Due to the overwhelming positive response, we will be releasing details about the class, KAL, as well as some great surprises along the way :)

Also, the best part are these slippers are knit flat then seamed – no shaping or turning of the heel like a traditional sock!

  26. Will these feel ok walking in them if don’t felt them?
I’d like some cable class, like a hat with magic loop with cable, headband and fingerless gloves (no thumbs) with cable too.
    Thanks Liat!

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Hi Julie! Since the pattern is written to shrink down while felting, they’d be a little too floppy to walk around in if you don’t felt them.

Do you want to learn how to cable? Because we have a great cables class (check it out here: https://www.knitfreedom.com/my-classes/cables-101/) With that knowledge you’ll be able to do any cabled pattern, which you could find on Ravelry (hat with cable, headband and fingerless gloves with cable). Or are you looking specifically for a class showing each step of a hat with cable, etc. Thanks!

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

So happy to hear that Laurie! Thanks to so many positive responses, we’re going to be setting up the knitalong for you (along with some great surprises) and will be announcing more about it NEXT WEEK!

  27. Adrienne Richter

The floors get cold in Canada in the winter, too. I’d love to offer a pair of these slippers to a close friend.

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

What a great idea Adrienne! The pattern is easy to understand and the size range is wide enough that you can gift a pair to the whole family this winter :) Hope you’ll be joining us for the class and KAL!

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

It really is! Just a ball of yarn and set of needles. Personally I’m keeping it by my couch for my TV knitting project. Hope you join us! :)

    1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Can definitely relate to that one Nancie – several of my socks have turned into felted pads for furniture after a run in with the washing machine haha.

We’ll be showing some great felting tips in the course, so stay tuned :)

    1. I am interested in doing the felted slippers class! Also, I am not sure if I am getting all the e-mails and newsletters (if you are sending them out). I just logged in to check some information for making another pair of socks when I saw the slippers class kal mentioned.

      1. Mary Claire Phillips - KnitFreedom Knitting Expert

Hi Peggy ! So excited you’re interested in joining us :) Don’t fret – we haven’t started sending out the Class and KAL details yet. We’ll be sending those next week! :)
