Surprise! Carlos and I have discovered we’re pregnant again and expecting a baby boy on November 21st, 2022.
If you think you are surprised, we are 10x more surprised as we had decided to “take it easy” and not have any more kids.
But it seems that life has decided for us, against all precautions, so we are now looking forward (?) to doing baby stuff all over again and never sleeping. However we are truly excited that Milo will have a little brother.
As we count down to November when things will never be the same again, life in Sayulita continues for the moment mostly smoothly.
Dealing with jet lag and focusing on taking care of Milo, we did our best to connect with my family members whom we haven’t seen in years.
Sharing dinners at midnight (hey, back home it was only 6pm!) and trying to stay asleep while the sun rose at 4am, walking around the cute town of Hampton Wick and exploring the many open spaces scattered around, touring Hampton Court (Henry the VIII’s castle), and eating as much non-Mexican food as we could manage were some of the memorable bits.
We also spent cold and rainy hours at various beautiful playgrounds, luckily all of which seem to have attached coffeehouses selling ice cream, croissants, bacon sandwiches.. the works.
Back at home, we are enjoying the rhythm of daily life with a(n almost) three-year old.
While no one wants to go outside much in the heat, the rainy season that is teasing at being here sometimes leaves the mornings cool(er) and overcast for a few hours.
We are waiting impatiently for the river next to our house to fill with water so Milo can stay cool and play with the neighborhood kids, who each summer congregate in the shade of the bridge to play in the water.
Meanwhile, we blow bubbles, play with trains, eat watermelon, and stick stickers on everything.
Much love to you all, and I’ll be back next month with another personal update so we can stay connected.

Family Trip to London
As a family we took a trip to London, England a few weeks ago to support my sister Kate Howe as she graduated with a Masters in Painting from the Royal College of Art.Dealing with jet lag and focusing on taking care of Milo, we did our best to connect with my family members whom we haven’t seen in years.

Thanks for your reply.
I have knitted a lot of socks… Magic Loop, etc., but there is always more to learn.
Thank you for your assistance!
Congratulations!
Thanks for sharing your visit to England. Nice to get to know you a little better!
We were able to travel a little this summer: Cruise in the Caribbean and Disney for a few days with our extended family. Fun being together!
Blessings to you!
Jan

Cheers,
Liat

One more thought, considering the love of knitting shared among us. Did you know that God is an expert knitter? You are so very blessed!
Psalm 139: 13-16
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
Dear Liat,
I could not be happier for you, Carlos, and Milo! (And could you possibly be any cuter with your baby belly in those floral bike shorts?!?) We make plans, and God laughs. You and Carlos have clearly demonstrated that you’re excellent parents with a bright, handsome boy, so God has entrusted you with another. Surprise!
Thank you so much for sharing your personal life with us in addition to your stunning knitting knowledge and delightful sense of humor. I feel like I know you well, though you don’t know me at all. You are an absolute treasure. I wish you were my neighbor!
Continued blessings. 💙
Gidget
Hi Gidget,
Thank you so much for this beautiful message! And the psalm you shared. It almost brought me to tears. Thank you for such a positive and supportive words about our parenting and God’s trust. That means so much to me, especially since we are working so hard every day to be good parents!!
I’m really enjoying sharing my personal journey with you. It’s important for all of us that we be connected, I’m understanding that deeply. And I get to know you and the other students through your comments, and it’s wonderful for me to receive that connection.
Big hugs,
Liat
PS I designed those bike shorts myself :) They are part of a secret side-project/passion of mine. They are shorts that are designed to let you be 100% comfortable (imagine that!) :D :D
Congratulations‼️ My summer is much quieter than yours, but I put plenty of mommy time in my younger years. Remember to take time for yourself. Blessings to you and your expanding family
Sally Kiewicz
Hi Sally,
It’s so great to hear from you! Thank you so much. I’ll work on that “taking time for myself” thing, I promise. :)
Hugs,
Liat
Congratulations! Milo and his little brother will rock your world! Wishing you and your family much joy, and keep those updates coming!
Hi Georgia,
Thank you so much! I’m so excited. I know life is going to be so cool, and different, with two little ones. Milo is already practicing being a big brother as he often has me pretend to be the “baby” when he plays with me.
Love,
Liat
Wow – congratulations, Liat! Very exciting to be expecting a new family member :) See you on Zoom soon, probably.
Hi Lori,
Thank you!! It is so exciting. At the same time, I’m glad we have a few months of “normalcy” still ahead of us. I’m relishing every moment.
See you on Zoom soon, I hope! This Saturday the 6th. :)
L
Mazel Tov, Mazel Tov, on the new baby coming. Milo is so cute and I love how you share your life with us. Looking forward to seeing you online and sharing my new Tunisian crochet shawl that I am working on now.
Hi Barbara,
Thank you so much! I’m so happy to see your comment and I’m glad you’re enjoying the little personal peeks I’ve been sharing. It’s meaningful for me, too. I can’t wait to see your shawl!! Happy crocheting!
Liat
Congratulations! Milo is so darling! Just wanted to say that I have used your toe up two at a time sock pattern so many times I have it memorized, I love the faux heel flap version. I recently learned to spin and used some of my own yarn to make a pair. I love that you taught me how to use ANY yarn to make socks. My homespun is much thicker than typical sock yarn…
Love to you and your growing family!
Hi Joni,
Thanks so much for your congratulations! I’m so happy to read you have memorized the toe-up sock pattern and are using it for all sorts of custom applications. That’s exactly my hope for all my students. Thank you for sharing your success with me!! Enjoy your spinning and those socks!!
Hugs,
Liat
Liat, what wonderful news for all of you. You are such a warm, caring person. We love that you have shared all your happy news with us. We will enjoy the trip with you.
Wish we lived near you so we could help out in some small way.
Much love.
Hi Nancy,
It’s so great to hear from you! Thank you for your sweet words. I feel so lucky to be connected to so many caring, loving people thanks to this site and our shared passion. I wish we had some help nearby, too! But please know that you being such a loyal student, and hopefully telling other knitters about KnitFreedom when you get a chance, is what is providing for our family and making it possible for us to rent our house and pay for our food. So I’m beyond grateful to you.
Love,
Liat
That picture of Milo in the swing at Hyde Park really got to me. I sat here laughing because I could just hear the sound of a big belly laugh coming from him! He was so happy! I am very happy he is going to have a little brother.
Best of luck Liat!
Ha! I’m so happy the picture made you laugh! We had a great time at the playground. The playgrounds in London were much nicer than the one he is used to here. And they all have those enormous round swings! So fun. It was great to see him enjoying the play areas.
Hugs,
Liat
Congratulations!
What an adventure! Sometimes the most unexpected things in life are the most enjoyable! Best wishes for good health for you and baby. 😊
Thank you so much Teresa!
Liat
Yet more evidence that we make plans and the Universe laughs ;-))
Congrats to all! Such exciting news.
Thanks so much for sharing pics too. You packed a lot in to a few days. Fab you were able to celebrate with your sister. You are so warm and open with your KnitFreedom community I feel part of an extended family. We’ll be on this new baby journey with you! OK, we won’t be the ones losing sleep after he’s born but we’ll be here to support you always :)
Big hugs and lots of love, Marla
Hi Marla!
Sorry it took me so long to reply. I loved your message. Thank you so much.
I’m happy I got the chance to share vacation pics! I wasn’t behind the camera much but when Milo was happy I did grab the phone to snap a few.
You are definitely part of our extended family! And it feels great to share with you.
Big big big big hugs,
Liat
So happy to hear from you and get your exciting news! Surprises happen like that – I know myself. I can’t do much knitting for a while due to health issues but I enjoy following KF. It keeps me connected and lifts my mood. Milo is so big now and I’m sure he’ll be a wonderful big brother. Congratulations to you all.
Hi Mary,
Thank you so much for your comment! I’m so happy you’re still following KF even while you’re on a break from knitting. I think it’s so important to stay connected over the years, so I really appreciate this. Big hugs,
Liat
So happy for you and your family! Milo is at a great age to get a new brother. He can help take care of “his” baby. Please keep sharing. Love the train track. I built a few with my grandson a few years back.
I am working on a Granny Square blanket for my sister’s birthday (Aug. 6), I think it may become a Christmas gift at the rate I am going. Everything takes longer at my age (79 in August).
I hope to get back to socks soon. Thanks for the help with that!
Hi there,
Thank you so much! I’m delighted that Milo seems to be excited about having a baby brother. He tells people he has a baby in his tummy. Lol.
And your sister is so lucky to get a handmade granny square blanket from you! I’m sure it will be lovely. Let us know how (and when) it turns out!
Hugs,
Liat
Congratulations Liat to you and your family! I don’t do much on the site anymore but am always interested in your projects and your wonderful family. You are truly creative with an artistic eye! Good luck with the new baby!
Thank you so much, Carol! I appreciate you staying connected even if you’re not watching our classes right now. We are one big extended family!
Hugs,
Liat
Congratulations and nice to see you were able to visit with family after all this time
Good to see your family out enjoying life. Priceless!!!
Thank you so much! It felt so good to be with family. Although difficult with a three-year old! I didn’t get to have many uninterrupted conversations, lol. Hopefully we’ll be able to go back for another visit soon so Milo can continue getting to know his relatives and hopefully want to play with them.
Cheers,
Liat
Fantastic news! Congratulations to you, Carlos and Milo. I love the photos and the updates. Like Sheri said, it too makes me feel connected to a friend I’ve not yet met. Try and enjoy the sleepless nights and days ahead – they will be a distant memory all to soon 💖 🌹
Hi Roz,
Thank you so much! I love that you feel connected. I do, too, and your comments are a big part of that. Connection is so important! Even over the Internet.
Thanks for the reminder to savor the moment, even the sleepless ones. I will.
Hugs,
Liat
Oh my, congratulations to You and the Family on this exciting news. I’m sure Milo will love having a little brother to love and help you with. . The trip to London sounded like so enjoyable. Thank you so much for the fantastic pictures, and Milo is just precious.
Best wishes to all.
Hi Judith,
Thank you so much!! I think Milo will be a great older brother. He certainly seems to be ready, telling people he has a baby in his tummy… Thanks so much for coming here and commenting.
Big hugs,
Liat
Congrats on welcoming the newest addition to your family. Can’t wait to see photos.

Congratulations ! Awesome news.
Sounds like your holiday is a blast! Such wonderful memories! ❤️
Hi Cheryl,
Thank you! The holiday was great, but over much too quickly. We had just enough time to overcome jet lag and then it was time to come home. We did make some great memories, though. Thank you for sharing in our news and commenting here.
Love,
L
Congratulations!!! Babies are always exciting. Hugs,
Thank you so much!

Wonderful to hear from you! Thank you for your sweet words and for enjoying our pictures and family stories. It’s great to stay connected with you.
Hugs,
Liat
This update made my day! Congratulations Liat, Carlos, and Milo!
Give yourselves lots of space and grace to adjust. The newborn days always made me feel like we’d ruined our lives for a bit but before we knew it, we found ourselves really loving our ‘new’ family. <3
LOVE these photos! Much love to you and your family!
Polly
Hi Polly,
Hooray! Thank you so much. I loved your note.
I will be happy to give myself lots of space and grace. That sounds perfect. It’s awesome to hear from someone with experience that it’s all worth it.
Big love right back to you. I hope your family is well and you get to get some knitting in during your busy summer.
L
I am excited and happy about your news. As daunting as “new baby” care can be, that time will pass quickly as well. Hopefully, in time your boys will become good friends and playmates. My very best wishes for you and your lovely family!
Hi Naomi,
Thank you so much for your sweet wishes and your encouragements. The idea that Milo and his brother would grow up enjoying each other is so lovely! I grew up as an only child (my sisters are much older) so this will be something special for me, too.
Cheers,
Liat
Just a genuinely lovely post!! Brought many smiles to my face. My sons are 3 years apart and have had a very close bond.
Three is such a magical age. I know you and your husband are having a great time with Milo. And he will be a wonderful big brother .. ❤️
Very best wishes for all the adventures ahead.
Blessings, Margaret
Hi Margaret,
It’s wonderful to hear from you! Thank you so much. And I am loving hearing from moms who have sons about 3 years apart. I feel very encouraged!
Thanks for being here for our good news.
Hugs,
Liat
So you managed to unintentionally cast on an entire baby? Without having to choose a pattern, fiber, or colors? And without knitting a swatch?! Impressive! 🥰And…you don’t have to put this WIP down after “just one more row!” Congratulations to you and Carlos, and blessings on your entire family. 🕊🤗
I enjoyed this peek into your life, and look forward to another. Milo eating that watermelon could be any kid, anywhere…just perfect. 😽
Hi Sharon,
Ha HA! I loved your message. Thank you. I am laughing out loud. Thanks for being part of our happy news and our extended KnitFreedom family.
Love,
