I’m on my way to the Big Apple, getting ready to tell the national media what’s so great about knitting nowadays. One of my favorite things? All the accessories you can make.
So here’s a quick and easy pattern for a perfectly-fitting iPhone cozy pattern — a great way to use up leftover sock yarn, practice Magic Loop, and protect your precious screen!
It even features a slot to plug the phone in, as well as a ribbed “cuff” to keep the top secure.
iPhone Cozy Pattern by Liat Gat
Materials
Yarn: 25 yards fingering-weight (sock) yarn
Needles: One US Size 1 40– or 47-inch long circular needle, or a set of US size 1 DPNs
Gauge: 7 sts/in in St st.
Finished Measurements: 4.5 inches tall x 2.5 inches wide.
Fits perfectly over an iPhone that ALREADY has a case on it. Can easily be adjusted to fit Blackberries and other phones.
Notes: This iPhone cozy is worked in the round, from the “bottom” up.
Pattern Instructions:
CO 36 sts, leaving a 12-inch tail for sewing up the bottom edge. Join for working in the round.
Round 1: K
Round 2: *(K1, M1, k17), rep from * around (38 sts total).
Next: K until cozy measures 4.5 in from CO edge.
Next round: K1, p2tog, *(k1, p1) 8 times, rep from * around.
Work next 4 rounds in 1×1 rib.
BO using invisible ribbed bind-off, or other stretchy bind-off.
Finishing:
Using rem CO tail, and mattress st, sew up bottom of cozy on one corner for approx. 0.5 inches. Weave tail through one side of CO for 1 inch, then sew up other corner.
Weave in all tails.
Be fabulous! Make a new cozy to match each pair of socks!

This looks very clever! I’m a big fan of simplification and would use Judy’s Magic Cast On For Toe Up Socks, and simply insert the phone with the plug at the open end. Eager to make one, and a good way to use stash.

M1 actually means “Make One” – it’s an increase. Here’s a video showing how to Make One.
You can refer to our Video Knitting Dictionary any time you are knitting and you see an abbreviation you don’t understand. This will make you a great knitter!

Is there reason why we couldn’t use the “toe up” casting on method to start the iPhone cozy? If there is something I don’t like doing is the sewing stuff. After casting on, perhaps a little cast off/on might leave a place for the charging cord. After finishing this pair of socks, I might try this…well, I will do it if there is any yarn left.
I have been looking for an iphone cozy! Wonderful and I like Virginia’s idea for the i-cord strap. I got a new Ipad recently and need a cozy for that now. Thanks for the pattern and now I can use up my stash yarn.

cool! I’ve searched for an iPhone cover for days. And found a couple that would “work” but I wasn’t happy enough with them. This is inspired….. a slot at the bottom so I can plug it in, thus leaving the phone in its case all the time :) …. handy when you have a house full of cats who refuse to consider you might want a space they can’t “enter” – LOL — thank you, Liat!!
