I was really, really happy to find this pattern – have been looking for something like this for a very long time. Tried it several times already and I love the possibility for making a heel in a contrasting colour – thats just perfect and gives an opportunity to play with colours. However, I had to tweak the heel a little when doing sizes with 64/32 stitches as the four first and last stitches on the needle will not be knitted together with the heel and therefore not in the CC. I just slipped the first four stitches before adding the CC for the heel, finished the heel and cut the yarn. Then slipped all stitches back on the left needle and then began knitting across in the main colour. Maybe you have a much better idea or maybe I do not explain this very well OR maybe I am just having a very senior moment :). No matter what – thank you so much for this pattern – it is my alltime favourite and I am overdoing my sock knitting – just for the fun of it. Elsebeth in Copenhagen

Thank you so much for your insight about when to start the contrasting color for the heel! You are absolutely right. I like your solution, or you could just knit the first 4 and then switch to CC. Does that make sense? I’ll have to knit these in contrasting colors for myself sometime soon, it’s been a long time!

I have a question someone perusing these comments may be able to answer:
In Section 4: Turn Heel, it says “Row 2: P22, W&T.”
I assume the P22 correspond with the 22 st increase for the gusset. My question is then if I made an increase of 24 st for the gusset (or 26 st), should this then read “Row 2: P24 or P26, respectively, and then W&T.”
Maybe the answer will come to me when I simply try it out.
And I am answering myself (again, is this my age or what?) – seems I need to write things out here to get my brain unscrambled.

Best fitting heel ever, I tried oodles of different one over the years, and this one has the ease of a short-row heel and the fit of a flap with gusset heel, I am soooooo happy I found this pattern, no more “wandering heel” for me.

I finished my toe up-2AT-easy-peasy heel flaps, last night. I think I went a tad too small on the ribbing, but I can get into them…barely. I used Scholler-Esslinger Fortissima. I’ll post pix on Ravelry @bikrgran.

Thank you for this KAL. It is great to read how others are proceeding. I learned the magic loop a couple of weeks ago and can’t believe it is so easy. Now I am doing two at a time what a breeze “easy peasy” as they say. It is going so fast only half the turns and half the pulls. Not to mention the time saved relishing in that first beautiful sock and then realising you have to do it all over again to get the second sock.

I am so happy for this pattern. I just finished the faux heel flap worsted weight socks. I actually made 2 successfully! Thanks to your great instruction and easy pattern directions. I am psyched to start these, yay.
Yes, I was hoping to cast on for a pair of socks today so the message and pattern was very timely. I’ve watched/read several of the videos/posts and plan to view the rest. I noticed a comment about this pattern in worsted weight – where can I find this? I would very much also like to make toe up socks using DK and worsted weight yarn. I’ve not had any problem with the fit of prior socks but, am interested to try this one and am glad you developed it with a variety of sizes. I don’t have needles as long as indicated so, guess I’ll need to pick those up first.

I really want to do this so I can accomplish a good fitting sock…I’ve made a few that are not too swift. Just need to get the yarn and needle.
Will definitely knit this sock sometime in the future; I may carry the texture further down the heel for additional strength.
I’ve started several socks left-handed, but I’m ready to follow a pattern AS WRITTEN for right handers! This should be a treat – no reversing or exchanging. I just hope my tension will be OK.

I’m from the Netherlands, so I hear you.
The yarn you’ll need is for 2,5 mm needles (perhaps 2 of 3 mm depending on how loosely you knit) There are special sock yarns too.

Hi Bonnie, I’m so happy you love Knitting Superstar! The 40-inch needles will be ok to start out with, but by the time you get to the heels you will probably be wanting to switch to the 47s. Here’s how to switch to a different set of needles on Magic Loop.

I too read my e-mail too late. What is a knit along? How does it work? What do you mean to say “hi” on the Ravelry page? I searched on the Ravelry website for a good explanation and how it works for a knit along, but I did not find an answer. I would appreciate your assistance in case you do another knit along. Susan, you can totally do these socks on DPNs. The directions are easy to follow even if you are not using Magic Loop.
I live in Dublin, Ireland and I have a question – is “fingering weight” the equivalent of our 4-ply yarn? I have googled this but have gotten more confused by the different interpretations listed. Can anyone help, please :-) Beth
Elizabeth, I, too find this confusing. I checked my sources (a very thorough email from a KNITFreedom follower in England) and yes, “fingering weight” is usually 4-ply yarn. Just check your gauge to make sure you get 28 stitches in 10 cm. I think you probably will.

Ill be purchasing your video on knitting socks. Ive been dying to learn how to knit socks and reading a pattern just won’t do for this… I’m still a novice knitter. Can we do two at once so when we are done we are actually done?
Yes, you bet! That’s one of my favorite things about Magic Loop and sock knitting. My two-at-a-time toe-up socks course teaches you how to get started two at a time, and the pattern also includes instructions for people knitting two-at-a-time, so that you don’t get confused. You are going to LOVE it. It’s like 5% harder than doing one at a time, and like 100% faster and more fun. :)

Hi Liat. First of all, I so enjoy receiving your very informative e-mail newsletters and videos. I am interested in doing this KAL (I have never done one before). My only question is I have never used the magic loop method of knitting before. Is this a good project for my virginal experience with this method.
Pat, this is a great project for learning Magic Loop. You will be challenged, for sure. I do think you should watch the introductory video that I link to in the pattern. I also HIGHLY recommend my short 12-video Magic Loop course before you start the socks – you’ll feel much more confident doing the socks. But whatever you choose, don’t let fear hold you back! I’m here for you. :)

I’m so looking forward to learning toe-up socks, two-at-a-time socks, and Magic Loop knot socks – even if it is all at once and I do lose some hair in the process!

I have been waiting to try a sock pattern that is written for toe-up socks using the magic loop. I am looking forward to making them.
I suppose it’s possible to do them on double-pointed needles, so that’s what I’ll do … eventually. We’ll be away – entirely off-line! – for the next three weeks.
