My First Adventures In Argentina

Liat Gat - Founder

June 5, 2011

All I wanted to do was relocate to Argentina and make knitting videos all summer – that’s proven less than easy to do! Here are my adventures so far…

On my friend’s recommendations, I chose Bariloche, in Patagonia. The lake is gorgeous!

Here’s the view from my hostel window:

It’s fun staying in a hostel! Here are a bunch of kids watching the Barcelona vs Manchester United soccer match:

I did find some knitting and yarn at a small artesanal fair in Bariloche.

When I saw this bin full of yarn I almost fainted with relief – I was home! I also couldn’t believe they were selling each skein of handspun for about $5.

I’ve now headed to Mendoza, Argentina, where they make the wine.

I’m hoping to find a place to live and set up shop so I can work on Knitting Superstar II!

  1. Sorry that didn’t come out right.
I’m hoping to go to Argentina when my son arrives there after his volunteering in Chile. He plans to live in Buenos Aires for awhile. I’m drooling over all the yarn, and the prices! How long will you be there?

    1. Hi Kristl! Thanks for reading! It makes me happy that you like to read about my adventures – I’m definitely branching out and opening up more, personally, on the blog now that I am travelling. I feel more connected to my students and readers than ever! Thanks for commenting!

  3. Hi Liat,
    “Intarsia, Brioche, Fair-Isle” oh my!
Can hardly wait to see those videos. I think of the three Fair Isle would be most interesting to me. Brioche second and Intarsia — that’s a maybe.

  4. Argentina, wow! How did you decide on Argentina? Friends/family there? Did you go by yourself? I hope you will have an absolutely fabulous summer and be totally inspired as you work on KSII. Post lots of pictures!

    1. Thank you Kay!! It’s funny – the way I decided on Argentina is that a friend was going to Chile and we decided not to go together – I had heard Argentina was cheaper (which it is, by about 30-40%!!), and here I am! I love it here. I’m moving into a real apartment on Monday, and I’ll get started filming! Intarsia, Brioche, Fair-Isle, mock cables, bobbles, duplicate stitch… I can’t wait!! Thanks so much for your comment!

  5. Liat,

I am so jealous. Maybe when I retire I’ll be able to travel to some unique yarn & wine country like you. The view from your Hostel window is fab. Enjoy your travels and keep posting. I am so enjoying your videos and have purchased the Knitting Superstar and am on my way to learning the magic loop process. Thanks so much for your hard work and sharing your talent with me. Be blessed and have safe travels.

    Gina
